David Sears

David Sears had racing in his blood from an early age. Son of double British Saloon Car Champion and prolific ’60s racer, Jack Sears, David began his motor sport career as a driver in 1976, completing a Jim Russell Racing Drivers School Course.

The British National Formula Ford Championship, was his next step, when in 1978 he finished third overall, with the accolade of being the highest-placed privateer.

Indisputable victory followed the year after, winning both the RAC and P&O Formula Ford Championships, coming first in a remarkable 19 races. This consolidated his early success, gaining such recognition, that at the end of the season, David was presented with the prestigious Grovewood Award as one of the most promising British and Commonwealth drivers.

David went on to race with, and often beat, many of the best names in the business, including Nigel Mansell and Martin Brundle (David was also Eddie Jordan’s first driver in F3), winning many more championships at many levels. This included drives for Toyota and Ford in Touring Cars, and Porsche and Aston Martin in the World Sportscar Championship. In 1990 David, alongside Anthony Reid and Tiff Needell, successfully drove their Alpha Porsche to third place at Le Mans, which to this day remains a highlight of his remarkable driving career.

David finally hung up his helmet and formed the International Formula 3000 team, Super Nova Racing in January 1994. Since then, under his expert supervision the team have gone from strength to strength, extracting the best from his loyal team, nurturing & maximising drivers talents, & occasionally going onto manage their racing careers. His own outstanding career, commitment & enthusiasm is renowned within the motor racing fraternity.
