Barcelona Race 2

Round Two –GP2 Championship 2007

Barcelona Sprint Race – Sunday 13th May

Super Nova drivers Luca Filippi and Mike Conway finished collectively today in 11th & 12th position having driven a tough race from the back of the grid, showing fortitude & promise.

Such high levels of competition here at the Circuit de Catalunya meant race two was an exciting and demanding 26 laps for all involved. Starting under a yellow flag, it was several laps in before the teams Italian driver, who fought with bent steering, could successfully challenge & pass several cars. Team mate Mike also gained a handfull of places after a brilliant start, including Pastor Maldonado on the final lap.

Timo Glock for iSport passed  polesitter  Javier Villa to finished 1st and also collected fastest lap. Racing Engineering’s Villa was 2nd,  followed by ART’s  Lucas Di Grassi to complete today’s Spanish podium.

Team Principal David Sears: “It was going to be difficult for us to get any points today starting from the back. We have the speed, so I hope to a have better time in Monte Carlo in a couple of weeks time.”

Mike Conway. “The start and first lap were good for me, I then struggled to improve until towards the end where I found the speed to catch up, but unfortunately it was too late to get past anyone. I’m now looking forward to Monaco, somewhere I haven’t raced before!”

Luca Filippi “The last two laps were a hard fight. The steering got bent somewhere along the way, which affected the set up of the car and made it very difficult to manage. It was tough race.”
