Monaco Qualifying

Super Nova and the GP2 Series travelled to the glamorous principality of Monte Carlo this week for third round in the 2007 championship. With just one Saturday race, the first of two 30-minute freepractice sessions took place at 12 O’clock today.

Both Mike Conway & team mate Luca Filippi having never raced here before used the session to familiarise themselves to the famously tight streets, in the midday heat.

26 cars went out and all but one returned in one piece, with a 4 second time between them. Maldonado was quickest with a 1:23.320 for Trident, followed by Timo Glock for iSport and Giorgio Pantano in his Campos car.
The team are now keen to have another good day tomorrow with a second practice session followed half an hour later by qualifying.

Mike commented “It went ok for me, I just spent the session getting used to the track, as I haven’t been here before. It seems a lot wider when you walk around, but in the car it’s really tight, especially the hairpin. I’m looking forward to tomorrow & hope to qualify well in the afternoon.”

Luca Filippi said “It’s my first time here in Monaco and on a street circuit, so it was really good today. I know where I can improve myself and where we can improve the car. I’m feeling quite relaxed and confident. There is a special atmosphere here, so it will be fun!”

Team Principal David Sears “With both Super Nova drivers not having raced at Monaco before, the first session was always going to be a steep learning curve for both Luca and Mike. After the first 30 minutes Luca finished 14th and Mike 25th.

Now having successfully completed a practice session on the circuit both drivers will now be keen to challenge the more experienced drivers, most of whom have competed here before in GP2, World Series and Formula 3.”
