Silverstone Race 1

Super Nova International scored 12 points today as Mike Conway finishes 2nd at his home race, while team mate Luca Filippi follows up in fantastic 5th, to reclaim 2nd place in the teams championship.

Sunshine covered Silverstone this afternoon as the team’s British driver Mike made a clean and precise get away from his P2 grid position, filing in just behind pole sitter Andreas Zuber at the green lights. Mike drove a faultless race, challenging the leading iSport driver for the entire 35-lap race as they pulled away from the rest of the group. He take’s his first podium-finish of the season & starts 7th in the top eight reverse grid for tomorrow.

Luca Filippi made progress today moving up a total of 6 places, helped greatly by an amazing pit stop on lap 9, just before his team mate. As he re-entered the race in 14th, confronted with under steering Luca carved through, and when several cars, including championship leader Timo Glock dropped out, Luca held onto his 5th position until the chequered flag fell, taking 4 points & starting second row on the grid for tomorrows sprint race.

Team Principal David Sears: “What a fantastic result for the whole Super Nova team with Mike Conway finishing strong 2nd, 1.8 seconds behind race winner. Mike pushed Zuber all the way to the flag, & moves up to 9th overall in the championship standings. It will be interesting in tomorrows race to see how Mike performs with the top eight reversed grid.
Luca Filippi managed a strong 5th from 11th and with championship leader Timo Glock not finishing Luca has moved up to only four points from the championship lead. Hopefully Luca can narrow the points gap to Timo again in the morning.”

Mike Conway  “We expected this weekend to be good, we felt confident knowing we had a good car, balance and pace, so we decided not to change too much from Magny Cours. There was a lot of challenging going on with Zuber, so for me it was a really good race – I didn’t want it to end! We have a good chance to get another podium tomorrow……. A big thank you to the team, as always. ”

Luca Filippi “First of all a brilliant team result for us today. We are becoming stronger and stronger, so I’m looking forward to the next race. I had some under steering so I was unable to catch the guys in front, but it’s good to be in 5th, and we have every chance to score points tomorrow. The incredible pit stop helped us a lot today for sure. I think we need to improve the car for tomorrow in order to win & that’s what I want to do!”
