Silverstone Race 2

In perfect sunny racing conditions Super Nova’s British driver Mike Conway collected another 2 valuable points this morning, finishing in a pleasing 5th position at Silverstone circuit, England.

Rescheduled an hour earlier than usual at 9am, Luca Filippi began fourth & Mike seventh on the grid. A precautious start for Luca saw him slip two places to just ahead of his team mate, as they all jostled to find an opening.  Their positions improved when Roldan Rodriguez went wide, leaving it open for both Super Nova drivers to pass, & then with six laps to go Mike overtook his team mate; the pair under pressure from yesterdays winner Andreas Zuber as he closed in on the leading group. Unfortunately Luca spun at 140 miles per hour on the first corner, avoiding everyone but returning in 7th position just missing out on a point today.

Mike Conway finished just 0.1 seconds behind ART driver Lucas Di Grassi having driven a determined race. Fellow Brit Adam Carroll won today’s sprint race.

Team Principal David Sears: “Another fantastic race today here at Silverstone with both Super Nova drivers in the top 7 places! Luca Filippi made a slow start and dropped back to 6th. Mike Conway overtook about half way through the race & when Luca spun through the first corner Corpes, luckily without hitting anything, he just missed out on a point. The race was won by old Super Nova driver Adam Carroll.

Mike drove a storming race to collect another two points. The effect of all of this is that Luca has now in 3rd place in the championship on 35 points, Lucas Di Grassi 2nd on 37 and Timo Glock 1st on 39points.  In the teams Championship Super Nova has closed a further couple of points on iSport and sits strong seocnd. The next few races are going to be very exciting starting with Nurburgring in two weeks time! ”

Mike Conway  “We came through to fifth, so I am happy to have scored again. It’s now important to keep this up and continue to score at every race. We had good balance today and fought all the way. It was definitely harder to pass today, but all in all I’m fairly happy.”

Luca Filippi “I had a bad start this morning. I caught up with Di Grassi & I think we have the speed to pass him, but unfortunately I missed the opportunity, and then Mike passed me and I made a mistake. However we scored some good points for the team this weekend, and I am only 4 points behind the championship leader after 5 races, so its very close. We just need to keep on improving.”
