Nurburgring Race 2

A fruitless race for Super Nova this morning, as only one car completes the 24 laps here in Nurburgring, unfortunately collecting no points along the way.

Following on from yesterday, both Mike Conway and Luca Filippi had a tough challenge ahead of them, starting from of the back of the grid for today’s GP2 Sprint race; in 18th & 25th after an unlucky race. Individually they made strong starts, advancing several positions. Unfortunately the Italians momentum lasted a short-lived six laps when he spun through a corner and was pushed into the pit lane. He rejoined but exited again with continuing problems, putting him out of the running.

Meanwhile Mike’s pace & determination pushed him up into 11th position and was closing in on Alex Negrao ahead of him, when he too locked up & spun on the track dropping 5 positions. With only a few laps to go, Mike managed to regain a position, to take P15 at the flag.

Javier Villa kept the lead today with an impressive start to finish win, followed by two Japanese drivers Hirate for Trident & Nakajima for DAMS.

Super Nova still retains third place in the both the team and driver championship.

Team Principal David Sears: “Unfortunately it wasn’t our weekend. Both drivers showed they were capable of the speeds required, with a point gained for fastest lap yesterday. We still sit 3rd place in the Championships, & the team all hope to secure this further in the next round in Budapest in 2 weeks time.”

Mike Conway  “I locked up the front left into the chicane, and when the rear locked up and I hit the curb, & I spun. It’s a shame, because I had worked through a fair few cars. The car was good today, although I think we lost a little in the high-speed corners. Overall the pace was ok though and we were running level or better than others.”

Luca Filippi “I got blocked at the start by Zuber stalling on the grid, so by avoiding him, I became last. It was going to be a tough race today, and in the end were we going for fastest lap, and although we were quick, we didn’t quite get it. I’m frustrated about yesterday really, because in turn it ruined today’s chances. I believe we had a better car than the one in front, but unfortunately we lost out on the chance of any points this weekend.”
